1849 : The birth of la Gaufre Méert
The belgian Michael Paulus Gislenus Méert takes over the business after five years spent in tthe Colonies on cocoa, sugar canes, vanilla and coffee plantations. Also benefiting from a career with the greatest confectionners in Europe, he developed the already numerous pastry treats and created the fabulous gaufre filled with Madagascar vanilla, definitively leaving his name to la Maison.
History will do the rest which will see many artists, writers, Heads of state, reigning royal families, and illustrious personalities from General de Gaulle to Marguerite Yourcenar, or even the Bourbon de Parme families, Orléans and Beauffremont... who will fall in love with this sweet fantasy with its incomparable flavor and softness !
